After tournament 4 of our 14 tournament season, Melanie’s team has been dominant. Notching 3 of a possible 8 wins, she has jumped to almost a 100 point lead over James’ second place team, and a 200 point lead over last place Brent, who has just one player with more than 75 points. If her team continues to play this dominantly, she may end up having wrapped things up by midseason. I figure I’ll do a quick summary and evaluation of each team so far.
Melanie: Simply dominant
Best Player: Andy Roddick
Worst Player: Phillip Kohlschrieber
Biggest Surprise: Vera Zvonereva’s consistancy
Biggest Disappointment: Fernando Gonzalez’s playing time (only 2 tournaments?)
James: Semi-final consistency
Best Player: Justine Henin
Worst Player: Gilles Simon
Biggest Surprise: Marin Cilic’s Austrailian Open breakout
Biggest Disappointment: Dinara Safina’s injury trouble
Best Player: Jelena Jankovic
Worst Player: Virginie Razzano
Biggest Surprise: Samantha Stosur’s 69 points
Biggest Disappointment: Serena Williams, Juan Martin Del Potro and Lleyton Hewitt’s lack of participation
Jon Mark: Just hangin around
Best Player: Caroline Wozniaki
Worst Player: Maria Sharapova
Biggest Surprise: Tomas Berdych’s finals appearence
Biggest Disappointment: Lack of depth after the big 3
Brent: Stuck in a pretty deep hole
Best Player: Kim Clijsters
Worst Player: Melanie Oudin
Biggest Surprise: None?
Biggest Disappointment: Dementieva’s mediocrity, Murray and Davydenko’s week 2-4 struggles
Note: Best player is not based on points, but what they’ve done in comparison to what was expected of them.
Hope you enjoyed. I know its tough to follow tennis since it’s not on tv often but i appreciate your efforts.
