If the top 5 finish by Watney didn’t make The Beast happy this week, the recent success of his general age bracket will. After a stretch where youngsters such as Camilo Villegas, Hunter Mahan and Dustin Johnson seemed to be the only ones having success, the last two tournaments have seen seasoned veterans Ernie Els and now Jim Furyk bring home the hardware. Furyk had the lead going into Sunday and preserved it with a round of 2-under par to win by 1 stroke over K.J. Choi. Other notable top 10s were Retief Goosen, Steve Stricker and Padraig Harrington.
Fantasy Summary: It was a very interesting week for Fantasy Golf in our league. 8 of the 12 players that finished in the top 10 are owned in our league and of those 8, only 1 earned his points from the bench. The Beast continues to prove he’s not to be taken lightly as he continues his rise up the standings with a very solid 70 point week and he’s only one win away from a serious breakthrough into contention. The acquisition of Rickie Fowler has injected some youth and upside into a team that has big win potential in Anthony Kim and Steve Stricker, I’d be on the lookout for the beast in the coming weeks, as well as Steve Stricker at Augusta. Jon Mark’s maiden week was definitely one to forget as he only had 3 golfers playing and managed to register just 5 points, but he should rebound well next week, as Ernie Els and Chad Campbell have both won at Bay Hill in the past. Brent continues to cruise on autopilot as he registered another 2 top 10s this week and managed a solid 55 points, even though he left a 2nd place finish and 50 points on the bench in K.J. Choi. James continues to fall behind, managing just 10 points this week behind an awful performance by Zach Johnson and a roster full of golfers that just didn’t seem to care. Hopefully next week will be a good one with Phil Mickelson back in the mix.
