Ernie Els won his first tournament in two years on Sunday, beating fellow South African Charl Schwartzel by four strokes to claim the World Golf Championships CA Championship. The Big Easy finished the tournament 18-under with 23 birdies and 5 bogeys. A dominating performance is just what Ernie needed to get back on track after a mediocre start to the season.
But Ernie wasn’t the only big name playing this week. Paddy Harrington finished in a tie for 3rd at 11-under along with The Beast’s promising hidden gem, Matt Kuchar. Paul Casey continued to show he’s more than ‘just another’ European player, posting his third top 10 in the last four weeks. Vijay Singh and Camilo Villegas failed to make much of a move on Sunday, shooting just 2-under and 1-under respectively. Phil Mickelson made a bit of a charge with a round of 4-under, but still failed to crack the top 10. Steve Stricker and Sean O’Hair shot 4 and 6-under to creep into the top 20, but still failed to make much of an impact.
Those were the happenings this week. The updated Standings and Rosters are up so you can take a look at those and see how your doing.
Next week is the Transitions Championship headlined by Steve Stricker, Padraig Harrington and Zach Johnson. Enjoy.
